Urban art and Hip-Hop take Limerick by storm for Make a Move festival 2014

By Mark Allen

Last weekend saw the return of the annual Make a Move festival, which celebrates and provides exposure for local hip hop and graffiti artists all over Limerick.

This year saw our very own LearningHub volunteers spend the weekend stewarding for many of the events, as well as creating a radio documentary about the local talent.

The festival kicked off with the award winning play DEEP, a play about house music in the 80’s written and performed by Raymond Scannell.

Friday saw Clare’s very own God Knows and mynameisjOhn take to the stage in Dolan’s for a launch of their new album Rusangano Family.

The energetic God Knows owned the stage before supporting act Naive Ted and mynameisjOhn finished the night with an unforgettable DJ battle.

Saturday was all about urban art as graffiti artists from all over the world took to the streets to decorate a desolate area of Limerick City.

Local and International artists from as far as New Zealand combined to create unique pieces of urban art and blow the minds of many locals.

Finally on Sunday, The Orchard was the place to be as local hip-hop artists took part in a rap showcase, giving local artists the chance to display their talent on a wider audience.
