On Friday the 7th of February all of us here at the Learning Hub took part in a Health and Wellbeing event in Thomond Park. The aim of this was to promote healthy choices and educate the young adults of Limerick to choose the healthy option. In conjunction with this, Keith Earls and Mike Sherry from the Munster rugby squad were answering questions along with Damien O’Donoghue, the Strength and Conditioning coach with the Munster Academy.
The one hundred students that attended were given profiles of people detailing their daily lives and diet. Students, along with the help from their Co-Op leaders had to pinpoint positive or negative eating/sleeping/exercising habits and research the facts behind them. When the research had been done, the groups had to present their findings in front of judges, Marcus Horan and the Rugby men.
The youths split into teams and were assigned roles including time keepers, researchers and presenters. Each group had an iPad or Tablet to aid with research, as well as the display tables set up by us here at the Hub. The winning group received a prize and went away with a better knowledge of what is healthy and what is not.
A fun and informative day was had by all!
